The tallest stone is visible in the center of the circle, behind the various stones that surround it.
Two parallel lines of stones stretch north-northeast from the main Callanish circle, forming a kind of "avenue." The tomb in the middle of the circle can be seen at the bottom of the picture.
The central menhir stands guard over an empty and unused tomb.
Near the summer solstice, a thin area of lightness shows above the northern horizon all night. This picture was taken about 10:30 at night, about two weeks before the solstice, and shows the stones almost in silhouette against the fairly bright night sky.
